Remembering Casey

Casey Wolfe was born June 12, 1987, in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. He was remembered as joyful, compassionate, funny, athletic, and devoted to friends and family. A back injury in eighth grade sidelined football, followed by isolation and experimentation with drugs. In 11th grade, he sought heroin. He attended outpatient rehab in his senior year, went to college for two years, returned home, and continued to struggle.

In 2009, Casey began making progress: accepting he had a problem, opening up to his counselor, beginning Suboxone in May, attending additional AA meetings, and finding a sponsor. He died November 12, 2009, after a heroin relapse. His family shares that addiction can be hidden, that he did not intend to die, and that addiction is a disease of secrecy.
